~ discretely romantic

good afternoon everyone!
how has your Thursday been?

pretty nice one here...
with mood much related to the mood board I'm bringing to you today...

as I'm training myself in styling, I'm also finding out each time little bits
about the different expressions my personal style can take...

it's no secret I tend to minimalism, clear lines, white canvases to work my ideas on,
natural materials & colours, a little bit of industrial at times, but overall I'd say rather an eclectic mix,
giving a sense of relaxed luxury, without necessarily meaning huge amounts of money to invest.

while {pinning} today, images like the ones put together in the collage above kept on capturing my attention...
it seems I love me lately a bit or romance, in my life..
actually in my interiors,
so long as it doesn't mean an explosion of flowers, patterns and things pink.

the pictures gathered here today carry exactly the dosis of romance that I like,
which comes to my mind as:

"discretely romantic"

mostly simple, white spaces, overall simple lines,
and a touch of feminism & sweetness brought by
relaxed shades of pink & peach,
and perhaps a gracefully handmade spread for the bed....

just enough I'd say....
{the bedroom} (sorry I cannot link you any better than that) below is a space I really like
and based on it, I made the mood board you saw first when coming here today...

I thought it's a nice way to welcome you here, or... what do you think?

as far as I' m concerned, I'd replace the paper lantern seen below...
(don't get me wrong, not that I don't like it,
but there's just something matching my taste far better,
still also like it quite as it is below)

with {this} fabulous pendant light,
as I particularly like the contrast between the romantic tone of the bed spread
and the super modern look of this showflake like lamp.
do you notice perhaps that they bind nice together cause of their common shapes?

then, I'd add {this couch} in a corner of the bedroom,
should the size allow for this...
I love again the pastel colours, especially the combination of mouse grey, calm peachy pink,
waken up by the touches of light green,
and last but lot least,
loving its elegant & classic form, yet so simple

of course, tea is to be served in such a bedroom on weekends of sleeping in...
and {this} tea pot, looking like it jumped straight out of a fairy tale seems like a lot of fun
with its chalky apricot & pink tones....

how about the laundry in case it needed to be hang there?
wouldn't something like {that}
add an extra everyday charm to it?

and should that bedroom needed to be left for any reason decent,
then it would be nice to be so in order to
 find yourself at a {wedding reception}
where the decor is made from the simplest of materials,
like the garland made form scraps of paper and the little sucullents
taking the place of a cake...
wouldn't that be wonderful?

"discretely romantic perfetion"

...I might as well say ~

to end this post a little bit of me...
as I kinda like lately adding my personal touch even when presenting styling work of others,

a blurry picture which Angelika made ,
during one of our meetings while visiting Greece recently...
this girl is an amazing photographer,
and I'm going to talk about her soon here, you'll see....
you'll love her just as much..

about the outfit,
combining chakis that are almost olive green with anything dusty or peachy pink is something I like a lot,
at least the little bohem in me does so....

hope you have enjoyed this post, as the more I get involved, the more enamoured I become with everything,
in terms of styling, photographing, writing, posting, connecting, communicating...

what a bright world before my eyes...
just as bright as before yours I hope!
...what?
...you forgot to put on your pink glasses today?
now dears...that wouldn't be a smart choice, would it? ; )

more inspiration soon
&
some lovely news about the shop

C U  sometime soon ~

~ wise owls aim at peace, dont' they?

how much truth and wisdom can a humourous vintage sign carry?

being deeply affected by the news about Greece, where you must all know that I originate from,
I felt the need to calm down my feelings of frustration that easily got evoked,
by making a treasury devoted to Peace, Tranquility & actually getting in touch with ourselves.

why do I say that?
well because this world would be a much better place, if those who judged were equally ready to be judged themselves.
Selten is the case though I'm afraid...
and in most "friendly" relationships all is well until someone raises a voice...

our societies suffer from our huge egos and in those I include mine too,
with which I've been trying since quite a few years to come into terms,
understand, realise, embrace, guide & direct towards beneficial ways.

Anyways my dears, despite the uneasy conditions, I think that this is a pleasant collection, don't you?
I hope that you are inspired with a colour palette for your homes, in fresh tones of aqua,
turquoise, sea foam greens, mints & greys especially now that summer is right at our doors.

The direct link to this collecction is {here}, from where you can visit each item and its respective shop.

This colour mood being set, I think it is a great opportunity to bring here to you just a couple of the pictures from this weekend.

Not pictures from the {bloggers event} as I promised earlier - at least not yet ;) - but pictures from a wonderful afternoon in one of the most adorable apartments I've ever been to,
belonging to the creative mind behind
{IDA lifestyle}, who is also a freelance interiors photographer and columnist for {Casa Facile}.

Ilaria lives there with her husband Alberto and on Sunday afternoon my partner and I visited them in Eindhoven on our ways back from Amsterdam to Frankfurt, for what was a lovely, easy going afternoon,
with ice cream eating, talking, laughing and lots of inspiration!

the guys had their own discussions & I think they liked each other much,
as for Ilaria and myself, we dived into magazines & crafting projects!

come, have a visit with us, you are invited!

First a little introduction....

and below a better look at each individual one

I felt so tranquil & happy...can you detect that?

to take more refreshing dives into Ilaria's home, jump over {here}
to follow her lovely {blog, here} & to visit her colourful etsy shop, filled with her handmade crochet treasures, hope {here}

have fun!..am calling it a night...
c u soon somewhere around the corners of this online home of mine
where you are always happily invited :)

~ breakfasts, bloggers events & urban life in Amsterdam

breakfasts...
I simply love them...
perhaps cause I still remember the smell of toasted sliced bread
my mother used to prepare in my school days
and the fresh butter melting on it, ready to receive a coat of homemade jam:
strawberry, apricot, orange, chestnut or whatever the season brought,
much like this one {here}

isn't it a wonderful treat and an affordable everyday luxury
to be having home made marmelade our our tables?

are you ones of those eager & talented ones that do so?
One day I hope I will...
for the time being I'm enjoying this each time I visit {Apart 44} in Greece.

Speaking of breakfasts and after this travel rather far back in time,
the pictures above are taken in {Village bagels}
an espresso cafe in Amsterdam,
located at a corner of the Princengracht,
where I spent my Sunday morning eating delicious chocolate brownies
and raisin cookies (seen in my tray),
drinking chai latte mit soya milk (not seen above),
reading {101 woonideen}, (part of the goodie bag we received at the blogger's event)
watching people, dogs, bicycles, trams & cars passing by...
and snapping some shots of them...
with my partner next to me...
I love simple morning like this...

but then this sunshiny Sunday morning was a little different than others,
not only because it was spent visiting another city,
but mostly because of the feelings prevailing after having attended the
there was so much good energy, positivism & enthusiasm all over that it was (& actually still is)
colouring my days brighter
As the time passes and having started early this year, I'm meeting more and more people in actual life,
with whom we originally met online,
mainly through our blogs & flickr accounts.

And I have to say, I haven't been disappointed once...
on the contrary, I'm often very positively surprised :)

Where you at the {event} yourself?...have you perhaps written a post about it?
I'd love to find out more about you, so please do link your blogs here!

Some pictures of the event where I also appear can be seen  {here},
and then you can read more about the event {here}{here} {there}!

I'll come back later posting some pictures of the event myself

till then,
enjoy your day!

Sacred ~ Life ~

Sacred ~ the title of {the photo} above....

it inspired my whole morning, which found me in a rather quiet mood....
are you this way sometimes, too?

after {the excitment and fun of the weekend}, meeting & spending time with new people, strolling around Amsterdam {for the 4rth or 5th time in 3 years},
its canals, streets, cafes & parks...

all I want to do is be quiet,
engage in creativity sessions,
preferably away from the screen,
take care of our living space which has been rather a little neglected,
do household jobs
&
redecorate or simply just refresh our home...

this will be the case after this post is prepared, posted & communicated on line...

a mix of doing jobs, relaxing with {my new favorite book}, creativity & coming in touch with my self ...

in this mood, I prepared a new collection of 16 items for your home,
all found on the shelves of Etsy

{here} you may visit each of the shop directly...

spontaneous as I like to come here and write,
I'm leaving pictures of my weekend in Amsterdam for later...

and instead am sharing here a few thougths, accompaning the etsy treasury above:

some things just are sacred ~
no questions asked ~
not many words said ~
artists at work must be experiencing sacred moments, too ~
so long as the driving force into creating is Love,
there'll always be sacred moments involved ~

what are your thoughts? would you like to share some? you are so welcome to do so!...

and then as I was checking the updates of my {FB page},
I stumpled up on these marvelous {port-manteaux},
only to fall in love with them
start visualising them in my new future home...
I'd actually like to make them on my own,
both for economy reasons and for the fun & creative satisfaction of it...

Before I go, I've chosen a print from the collecction above that I really adore,
as it represents beautiful memories of a very {dear friend} of mine,
who loves Italy & its architecture as much as I do...

and then I thought how wonderful these two pictures above and below would look together framed on a wall:
{ancient love} from my friend's shop & {frozen music} from my own shop

[via]

"Frozen music" has been photographed on the top of Milan's cathedral,
visited during Christmas vacations with my parther,
who actually took the photo

this print can be also found in a collection of four pictures,
all in calm shades of {beige & naturals}
which are currently on SALE

I hope you to pay a visit to all the shops linked here
as a decoration tip for today, I'd suggest you to combine these last two pictures for your walls,
they'd look marvelous together!

want to add them in your entrance and fix these wooden {port-manteaux underneath}?
you are going miles in style ahead ~

last but not least at all, are you perhaps speaking French?
then jump on {this marvelous blog} from Marie Claire maison circle
and indulge yourselves in great images...

even if French is not your language,
the pictures are enough to keep you great company and inspire you!

wishing you a wonderful Tuesday ahead
c u soon dear all!

well...love & decorate ; )

hello everyone! happy Monday & a lovely new week ahead :)

thank you once more for joining this place...
welcome to all new lovely people, many of whom, you are blog writers yourselves.
I have quite a lot of new blog searching and reading to do, especially after the {meet the blogger event} this Saturday in Amsterdam....and...are you guessing how it was? ...a pure delight and a totaly positively energising experience!

as this post here today will be centering on my personal litle story, inspired by {Holly Becker}'s story, her fabulous book {decorate} and my meeting with her,
if you wish to have a taste of how much fun the whole weekend in the Netherlands has been, then please do jump over {Ilaria's lovely post} , as she did such an excellent job putting it together. You can  find all about our little adventures, since we spent quite a lot of time with each other...lucky me ; )

so as you see in the picture above, my love for decoration has finally had its most delightful encounter ever:
with {decorate} and the author herself, Holly Becker

what follows is a little real life story so that the context is set for you to understand the importance of this happy encounter for me.

About 20 years ago, being 16, I invested my then pocket money in buying my first Encyclopedia of Architecture & Interior design. I must have skipped going to a couple of concerts, cause all I wanted was to be keeping in my hands books with pages of beautifully designed spaces,
spaces we could call "HOME".

Still in school, obviously rotating towards positive sciences, as I was a little nerd in algebra & geometry, becoming an architect would have normally seemed like a very well favoured option.

Life brought it this way and my family wished that I became a follower of their business, a little private language institute they had begun themselves back in 1969...I was weak & undetermined...so I simply put my dreams away and went on with me English studies, aquired my Proficiency in English language as early as being 17 and by 18 I had already started doing private pessons for pocket money. To officially be teaching at the institute, I had to be trained as a teacher at the {British Council} and be minimum of 20 years.

In the meantime of course, I was not allowed to simply be sitting around and be "playing" with my dreams and creativity. So I enrolled myself in the {American collage of Greece/ Deree}, which was also the wish of my parents.
My father chose what I would study. It was  Management & Marketing, as his thoughts were that I'd take over the business one day not only as a teacher but also as an owner.

Need I say that I became the worst student ever for a year? I was missing classes and was really feeling that I was on the wrong movie, me being the protagonist. Often under my college books, there were some of the Interior books I was continuing to buy sep by step...I was diving in to their pages with pure enthusiasm, analysing how the spaces were put together...and feeling so unbelievably tranquil, inspired and happy...

I was escaping and soon I would have to face that...
As the college had a minimun of 70% performance in order to be studying there,
I soon fell into probation. I had to have meetings with the dean and the college councelor / psychologist.

I wanted to quit and enroll myself in Interior design and decoration courses. At that point, Deree was not offering that. I took the courage and spoke to my father. There was clearly no chance that I could go on being part of the family, unless I went on with my studies at this precise University, which was btw by all means a wonderful one.

So, I had an idea. I would change my major and try to find something of meanigful interest to me, in order to study and be a decent student again. I decided that being part of my family was more important than my Interior design studies at that moment. After all, I knew I loved it with my whole heart, so sooner or later I was going to have the chance to do what I wished.

I went on studying on my own the books and magazines I was buing, while at the same time after a year I recoverd as a student in the college and was successfully studying Psychology.
It was my chance to gain some understanding in human behaviour, to understand my own feelings and self and hopefully manage to put into a positive flow, my feelings of anger, despair & disappointment.
I graduated majoring in Psychology & minoring in Philosophy in 1999 with fairly good grades.

I did start seeing the light at the very, very end of the tunnel, but I knew that working as a psychologist would not be what I wished to do. Studies on perception and colour psychology, as much as Industrial psychology, which actually deal with the effect spaces have on people, whether these are domestic or working environments, was showing me the way to find a point where psychology and interiors meet.

I soon begun realising that living beautifully and leading a happy life goes much beyond simply having the assets to do it. It goes much beyond simply hiring a decorator to put your space together.

Living a beautiful, fullfilling life is an art, put together every minute of the day by each and every one of our actions...
and yes the spaces we inhabit can have a quite impressive effect on our mood and our lives eventually as a  whole.

To start making the long story short, through my psychology studies, I found the most appropriate and healthy way out of something that was totally not meant for me, while at the same time learning the hard way to be super patient, have faith and believe that dreams do indeed come true, so long as we do something about them.

There is more to the story to tell of how I have reached to the point where I now am, but will be waiting for the next chance to go on with it. After all I would really like to avoid tiring you, unless that has already happened.

So going back to dreams, my dream has not yet come true, as working as a freelance interior consultant cannot yet pay my bills. Neither writing articles and posting them on my blog or keeping an etsy shop.
But, I know I'm closer to it than ever before and in this frame of mind and feelings I can absolutely reasonate with Holly and her current happiness,
whose childhood dream has come true.
Her book is published, with her name on it and it is so fabulous, as any other decorating book I've ever held in my hands...and they might not be thousands but a few dozins they do are...

So among the lovely magazines included in the goodie bag we received as presents from the
organisers of the meet the blogger event mentioned earlier, I returned with my very own copy of Decorate,
bright, shiny and signed by the author herself personally for me...
with wonderful words full of meaning, which I actually would like to cherish privetely and not share here,
at least not at the moment...

I haven't ever had a book signed before, cause as a process it had not a really significant meaning to me, being aware that there are usually typical words written...well, I was so positevely surprised by that, too!

Holly was taking time to actually connect to each one of us she was referring to and I was personally thrilled to hear from her say that she does read these lines here and she actually likes being around here a lot.

You know, had it not been for me totally accidentally having discovered blogging about two years ago,
I would have never actually found out that I can also write & express myself publicly....
and to imagine that back in college my worst fear was essay writing and public speaking!

I don't know if I have conquered my fear of public speaking yet, but can certainly tell you that I am much more comfortalbe in my own skin and enjoy my meetings with people much more than I did before.

I think that asides from being healthy, having my parents & having met my current life companion, psychotherapy & blogging have been the best things ever to have happened to  me...or actually that I made the decision that they happen to me.

And to go back to Holly, she is one charismatic person I can tell you, full of inner glow and healthy satisfation for who she is and her achievements, after having struggled very, very hard to raise her voice, stand up for her dreams and go and make it out there!

dear Holly, you are an amazingly inspiring person, a great writer, able to move mountains, a really fun & energising public speaker and have a lovely very distinct sense of aesthetics & style, all marked by Holly, decor8 and you!

It's an honour to be having your book & a real pleasure to have met you :)

As for the book itself, I can say that I loved looking through its pages for the first time...I remember being so eager to see it all, but then wanting to take my time, making sure that this first look was gonna last as long as possible, enjoying the appearance of every new page before my eyes, as if not wanting a favorite ice cream to finish...

Good news is: I can always start all over again! ; )
for the time being I'm enjoying spending some time with it daily, observing carefully, reading paragraph by paragraph, page by page....line by line...

here is a glimpse of just a few of my favorite pages:

I think that I could be living with my family in this space of page 25 below:

while I also adore Amy Butler's house and this of fabulous and ever favorite to me textile designer Virginia
Armstrong seen below

are you all holding in your hands your own copy? am almost certain you are so!

...my dear friends & everyone who has stumpled upon this page, thank you all for reading this post, if you have been so brave as to read through it all and once more, thank you Holly, cause it is through you I found the courage to share a little bit more of my personal story here

wishes for all things best in every possible way!

will be coming here soon with more ispiration, photography and everyday stories from this weekend and of course not only!

24.6.11

well...let's talk about love ;)

good afternoon on this Friday everyone!

since I haven't been much online today, let me ramble a little bit,
would you? ; )

so...LOVE...love is a beautiful thing....
many have sung so and few can deny it...right?

the reason why I'm bringning this three dimesional art installation {Love of wire} to you here today, is that it got featured in {Etsy's front page today again} for one more of many other times. And eventhough this item is to be only prepared customly by order, it brings me happiness to see this magical aspect of life, being viewed by a few hundreds of pairs of eyes in just an hour...
my hopes are that a positive message is transmitted....

you know as time passes by, it is revealed more clearly to me what my creations are standing for...
there is definetely clear symbolism, while attempting to bring a sense of inner calm, tranquility, serenity and a little touch of magic, staying pragmatic at the same time...

talking about this magical aspect of life, it's the right time for you to take a flight over to {Mortal Muses}, where I had participated in a series of "what inspires  you" posts about 8 months ago. I'm afraid I had only shared {that information} on flickr, so it is quite possible that you have no idea about it! It seems to be fitting quite nicely today though. So, love being my subject, "Love as an expression of art" was my contribution to the series and {here} you may read all about it.

talking about this magical aspect of life, I couldn't but share with you,
one of the loveliest "thank you notes" that has been ever written about my work & me.

Who did?
adorable, talented Nika from {Nika handmade papergoods}
whose admirable work was featured {here} yesterday.

Eventhough she writes in her mother language - Slovenish - she was kind enough to send me a translation, as I do not speak her language. Still, through art people can express themselves and connect beyond any physical boundaries or those of language or culture.
I find this very touching, moving & at the same time poweful...

So here it is, her post: "Amazing people"

"Sometimes by coincidence you meet amazing people. Iro is a wondeful person, writing an amazing blog, has a great apartment and online shop full of beautiful photos and things for the home. She wrote me on Monday and said that she would like to present my work on her blog. As I was ckecking it, I was impressed. We find beautiful things, ideas for home decoration and little treasury lists, that she curates on etsy. While I was reading her blog, I found out, that she is dealing with home decoration and interior consultancy and all I can say is that she is doing a great job. I wish, in the future, that my apartment would be as beautiful as hers, because she has an amazing sense of aesthetics. Home is the one place, that you come back to. It is the place, where you cherish great moments, have dinner with friends,  the place, where you can go after the chaos of outside world which sometimes is just too much. It is like a harbour. And the harbour of Iro is just beautiful. If I lived in Germany, I would go shopping with her for home, would ask her for some advice and I would have her pictures among many others on my walls. Thank you so much."

Thank you, Nika! You are so amazing yourself!
Our on line meeting has coloured these days bright and sweet!

my dear friends, I' ve kept you rather long with this & that
but will goodnight you soon, with these ever loved {happy paper boats},

thank you for your love & preference....it changes my whole world....

good night from Amsterdam, where I've come to take part at the
"Meet the blogger" event tomorrow.
looking forward to meeting you all there!

and to you my dear readers, a mostly delightful evening and weekend ahead
c u here quite soon :)

I must be very careful about the amount of input I'm exposed to, especially when wanting to focus on quality!

Being a rather picky person I must admit, to completely fall in love with the work of someone is already a big deal. To feel that someone's work represent me so much, that I could have also produced something similar is another big deal!

~ ones with hand drawn geometric illustrations
~ monochrome ones, plain or with messages
~ monochrome ones with photographs - single ones or collages of them
